Life’s demands often pull us in so many directions, and it’s easy to let busyness or small frustrations dim the joy God intended for our marriage.

I don’t know about you, but the Advent season always stirs something special in my heart. There’s this beautiful mix of excitement and quiet reflection as we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus. It’s a season of hope, peace, and yes—joy.

But let’s be honest—sometimes it’s hard to hold onto joy, even during this magical time of year. Life gets busy, expectations pile up, and if we’re not careful, even the most important relationships, like our marriage, can take a backseat.

Advent invites us to slow down and refocus, not just on Jesus but also on the blessings He’s given us—our spouse being one of the greatest. Philippians 4:4 says, “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” This verse reminds me that joy isn’t about everything being perfect; it’s about choosing to see the goodness of God in the middle of life’s chaos.

So, how can we bring more joy into our marriages this Advent? Here are a few ideas:

  1. Take a Gratitude Walk: Bundle up, take a stroll together, and talk about the blessings you’ve experienced this year. It’s amazing how sharing gratitude with your spouse can deepen your connection.
  2. Do Something Thoughtful: Maybe it’s an unexpected cup of coffee, a handwritten note, or offering to tackle a chore they dislike. Small acts of kindness can spark big joy.
  3. Create a Tradition Together: Advent is the perfect time to make memories. Whether it’s watching your favorite Christmas movie, baking cookies, or reading the Nativity story, these moments matter.

Marriage is such a gift, and it’s one God designed to reflect His love. This Advent, let’s lean into that love and choose joy—not just for ourselves but for each other.

We are praying for you and your marriage this season. May it be filled with moments of laughter, gratitude, and the peace that only Jesus can bring.

With love and blessings!

Together for marriage,

Mike and Holly
