Praying together isn’t just an act; it’s a gift. And it’s one that can transform your marriage in ways you never imagined.

Life gets busy, doesn’t it? Between work, kids, errands, and everything in between, it’s easy to let your relationship with your spouse settle into autopilot. But there’s something powerful—almost sacred—that happens when you take a moment to pause, hold hands, and pray together. And it takes a little as 3 minutes of your day. We all have 3 minutes to spare, right?

Praying with your spouse isn’t just about asking God for help or thanking Him for blessings (though those are important!). It’s about connection. First, it connects you with God as a couple. When you come before Him together, you’re reminded that your marriage is a three-cord strand: you, your spouse, and God. That bond is unbreakable when nurtured.

Second, prayer fosters intimacy. Sharing your fears, hopes, and dreams aloud in prayer allows you to see each other’s hearts in a way that day-to-day conversations sometimes can’t. It’s vulnerable, raw, and deeply connecting. Even if you’re not a wordy person, just hearing your spouse lift up a simple prayer for you can speak volumes.

Praying together also has a way of diffusing tension. Have you ever tried to stay angry while praying? It’s almost impossible! When you bring your disagreements or frustrations to God, He has a way of softening hearts and reminding you of what really matters.

Maybe the idea of praying with your spouse feels awkward or unfamiliar. That’s okay—it doesn’t have to be perfect. Start small. Hold hands before bed and thank God for one good thing about your day. Pray over a tough decision you’re facing. If words don’t come easily, use a short prayer or Scripture as your guide. The key is consistency, not eloquence.

In Matthew 18:20, Jesus says, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” When you pray with your spouse, you’re inviting Jesus into your marriage. And His presence brings peace, unity, and strength.

So, give it a try. Set aside a few minutes today to pray with your spouse. It might feel small at first, but over time, you’ll see the ripple effects—in your relationship, your family, and your faith.

Together for marriage,
